WHO ARE YOU? That is the big question today. Maybe pictures and words said by others come to your mind. But, the most important truth we must know is: “Who does God say that I am?”

There is nothing about God that is accidental. When He placed the earth in the universe, He was strategic and intentional.

“The Creator designed the earth so that it would be absolutely ideal for human habitation. For instance, it is just the right distance from the sun, 93 million miles. If it were less, life could not survive. The earth is just the right size. If it were different, its blanket of atmosphere would be too dense or too thin. The tilt of the earth is what causes the four seasons and makes the cultivation of the land possible. Without it, most of the surface of the earth would be a vast desert.” (William MacDonald.)

Everything about our planet was masterfully engineered by God, from the rotation speed, to the amount of water and oxygen, to the ozone layer. Accidental? If you think the car you drive, the phone you use, and the Mona Lisa all happened by chance, well, you don’t think that! So, I rest my case.

Actually, I don’t rest my case, yet. Look at the birds of the air. It Is absolutely impossible for them to have survived the sequential evolutionary process. They are defenseless creatures. Their tiny little legs are not efficient to run from predators or to walk miles and miles each day to find enough seeds and bugs to eat. They needed to fly with masterfully engineered wings the moment they were created.

Likewise, cheetahs had to be fast with a keen sense of smell for them to survive from day one of their existence. If they had evolved, as slow, unable to smell, dull-teeth creatures in the beginning stages of evolution, they would have died hungry! End of the cheetah story.

Please take these examples as a very clear sign that God cares for every living creature. He designed them carefully to survive and thrive. But YOU are His beloved masterpiece, “His Workmanship.” Please don’t think this applies to just somebody else. I believe with all my heart, you need to not just hear this today, but, you need to listen as truly as if God is speaking to you directly and personally, because I believe He is.

If you doubt that you are divinely designed and that you are in a place that He can use you in ways that exceed your natural abilities, you are not alone. God called an ordinary man named Moses when he was old and all alone in a desert place. His resume would not have qualified him to work at Burger King, let alone work for The King of the Universe. But, God! (This is, incidentally, one of my favorite phrases!).

But, God called Moses to deliver a message to His people and to Pharaoh. What did Moses say in response? “But, God!” In this usage it is one of my least favorite phrases. Moses said, “Oh Lord, I am not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue tied and my words get tangled.” This must have been a shocking “news flash” to God.

In this very human moment, Moses perfectly expresses our greatest road block. He said, “I can’t.” which translates to “I won’t.” So then, what was God’s answer? I believe it is exactly what He is saying at this very moment to you and to me.

Exodus 4:11 says, “Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, The LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

My heart sinks when I read that Moses pleaded, “please send someone else.”

So, who are you? Pastor Chuck Smith often said, “God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” You have a divine calling and His Holy Spirit will lead you whether it’s speaking to teens, mentoring young moms, doing accounting for a mission ministry or let God fill in the blank. Will you ask God? Will you listen for His answer? Will you then say, “Yes.” when He says, “Go.”?
